I did a speed test today with two laptop computers one which is a Dell and the other a Gateway. They are directly connected to the cable modem. My Dell speed-test is at 30 mbps which is correct. Now my Gateway is at 17 mbps can some body please explain too me why this is happening and what exactly should I do to get my Gateway up to the correct speed?

Thank you,
Dave

There are various reasons. Usually the boadband speed varies a bit.

Second the speedtest you are using, uses flash, which may not work at 100% speed on every browser and computer. In this particular case you are running it on very slow CPU, so that very well explains it. It just can't run it fast enough.

The network speed in probably full rated speed on both computers. If you want to test it, download something large from a major commercial site, and see the speed displayed. Usually browsers report download speeds in MB/s, not MBit/s so take that account too.

I understand now so I am getting complete full speed through my ISP at 30mbps although one computer does not show it? Next time no shoestring budget computer for me...and it's only two years old---the other one is three. Thanks for the solution greatly appreciated....
