Hello all, I am new to this Forum so I apologize if I make some huge mistake.

My SSD running Windows 8.1 OEM died on me and I am replacing it with a brand new SSD that I will be installing a new copy of Windows installed on. I have two 2TB HDD that I used for storage in my system. My main problem is that I was not able to back up all files from these two HDD before the system died.

So my main question is, should I install the new SSD with Windows while the HDDs are still installed and will they still work even though it is a new installed copy of Windows? Or, am I out luck and I will need to format the hard drives and lose the data on them to get them to work with the new SSD and install of Windows?

If anything needs clarifying please let me know and again first time poster so I apologize if I did not craft this correctly.

Thanks for any help I can receive.

You should be able to install Windows just fine with the HDDs connected, just make sure you know which partitions are the HDD's and which is the SSD. If you get confused on which is which during the installation, you can disconnect the drives while you're installing windows, then reconnect them after it's installed and working.
