Hi,

So I usually have my computer connected to the internet through an ethernet cord plugged into the wall. There has never been a problem with it and I always get an internet connection. Recently I have decided to start using a router so I can connect my phone and tablet through wifi and connect my computer through an ethernet cord plugged into the router.

The problem is that I can connect to the router, but I don't get internet access on my computer or on my phone or tablet. When I connect my computer to the router through ethernet, it says "no internet access". I have made sure that I plug the ethernet cords into the correct ports on the router and I have tried rebooting the router. I have called customer service three times but they never have a solution for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
Try to login to the routers configuration settings.

1.Type this into a web browser: 192.168.0.1 or if that doesn't work, 192.168.1.1

2.It should ask you for a username and password, type those in (it is provided usually in the documentation or box of the router)

3.Setup wireless settings from there and confirm them

Thanks for the help,

I went onto the router's page and I have no idea what to configure. There are heaps of different things to click on: basic setup, VLAN setup, IPv6 setup, DDNS, MAC Address Clone, etc.

Do you know what I should be changing?

Try setting up basic setup, and let me know the model of your router, i'll look up your documentation if you can't locate it

Edit: If you can locate a page that says WLAN setup or setup, enter in the SSID, password, and security mode (WPA2, or WPA)

My router is a "Linksys N300". I have no idea what to do in basic setup.. Nor do I have any clue what to do in any of the other options. I will try to locate the WLAN setup now.

Update: I couldn't find a WLAN setup page.

Hmm, ok. Did the router box come with a cd or software inside of it? (if yes, put that cd into your computer and set it up from there)

Edit: Make sure that the "ethernet cable" from your "modem" is plugged into the "internet" port on the router

And the ethernet cable from the "computer" is plugged into any of the "numbered ports on that router"

It did but I seem to have lost the CD. I called customer service a 4th time and found out that what i was trying to do was create an access point. Customer service tried to instruct me on what settings to change (eg. disable DHCP) but didn't succeed. If you know how to do this please help!
