I'm running Windows 10. Samsung Support is telling me, they have not updated the data migration software to work with W10. In fact, when I attempt the USB to SATA method for cloning from my HDD, it will not recognize the SSD.

Would it be safe to attempt this method: Attach the SSD to unused SATA Data & Power cables in my PC (yes, I have one set unused) and attempt cloning in this way? Even if I have to use another cloning system instead of Samsung's.

You can try. if that doesn't work then you can download and install Macrium Reflect. A lot of us use it. Just install it, It's free, then clone your existing drive to the SSD (best if internal. Will transfer faster unless it is on a USB 3.0 port) and once cloned turn off, swap drives, turn on.
