I want to upgrade memory in a recently purchased Dell Inspiron 15-i5558-2858 to 8GB or 16GB. It is a dual channel currently with 4GB, 2 slots with intel core i3.

I would like to use the Corsair Vengeance DDR3L1866MHz, but do not know if it is compatible or even offers any performance improvement. If it is not compatible, would the Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz work?
My fallback is the Kingston Hyper X Impact Black if the Corsair Vengeance will not work.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

As long as the RAM you are looking at is SODIMM in size, 1600MHz and DDR3L, you will have no problems. I'd say that the 1866MHz RAM will most probably also work, but it is safer to go with the 1600MHz RAM since that will almost certainly be compatible.

More importantly, make sure that your RAM is SODIMM in size! Regular DIMM size RAM is for desktops, and won't work in laptops. Here is a size comparison:

Also remember not to mix different kits of RAM, that could lead to problems later on. If you want 8GB in total, buy a 2x4GB kit like this one: Click here.

Finally, before you buy the RAM, be sure to check if the RAM is upgradable by the user on your laptop, as many new laptops come with the RAM soldered onto the motherboard, making it impossible to upgrade. If you remove the back cover / RAM slot cover, you should be able to see something like this:

If you don't, or your back cover is not removable and there isn't a smaller RAM cover, then you may not be able to upgrade the RAM by yourself. If there is, then it is possible to upgrade it yourself.
