I'm able to get 4.2 @ 1.424V game stable arround 39-72°C load in game (gta5 2160P, 980Ti basic amp by Zotac that will black screen on me if I push it past 122% for over a minnute(poor VRM cooling?), OC to 1420/3900 99-118% load in a "turn it up to 130" modded bios.... so easy).... No hitches or stuttering, my asus Z170 S (sabertooth), however it is is garbage.... The rated XMP corsair memory will not run at the timings, or speed deemed okay be both manufactures, I have gone through 2 $200 Gigabyte motherboards as well, a total of three boards, and a different ram kit....... only to be certain the thermal grease they used to save $0.08 between the heat spreader and CPU die is also garbage.

The Asus Z170A is the highest FPS in game with the settings at very low detail @ 640 x 480

The 6700K (K=Overclockers chip.....Yeah right...) maybe not a butter smooth gamers chip, if you look at most current title games they suffer at higher clock with this cpu, , per my findings on the interwebs and in person.

I am going to buy a new one of both....

The recent gens I7s are disappointment... especially I7 4790K and I7 6700K
4790K is basically a rebrand of 4770K with better thermal paste, and boosted the base clock to 4.0ghz from 3.5
so all the speed improvement you see, is basically intel overclocked it a bit. in reality, the base performance slightly improve.
Intel doesn't have competition, so their cpu's performance barely increases. My 4790K can overclock from 4.2ghz to 4.7ghz 1.3v and only 1.3V it is already buring hot! hitting 90C. If you look back in the previous gens, espeically I7 2600K , it is absolutely a god tier CPU 5 years ago! you can overclock this beast straight up from 3.4ghz to 4.8ghz on average!!! 1.5V barely touches 70C! and its overclocked performance can match 4790K boost clock performance! For only $180!
This is why I7 4790K and 6700K are disappointments... can barely overclock this thing from 4.2 to 4.6ghz...... i m done

Honorable
4.6 is not too shabby. Most of the people getting 4.8+GHz are feeding their chips a ton of voltage to get there, while most of the people getting weak OC's are treating it like Haswell and staying below 1.3V. A nice 24/7 O/C on a Skylake chip is at a voltage is in the upper 1.3s to 1.4. It's much less susceptible to degradation than Haswell. According to a study published by Intel, it can take 0.1V more than Haswell while maintaining equal longevity.

I was able to hit 4.9 GHz with this Setup, The motherboard is pretty good for overclocking. Pushed up to 1.5v And got 4.9 GHz overclock on it. Ran 3 Tests and worked out pretty good.
