So 2 days ago i got a new pc:
A10 7700k
8GB Ram 1x8 @ 1600mhz
Corsair VS450
Asus A58M-K
500Gb HDD

I've seen benchmarks and videos on the internet and i was impressed with the performance of the APU, running bf4 at 65fps at 720p on low settings.

When playing Battlefield 3 i get 30fps constant at 1024x768 (highest resolution of my monitor) and when i drop it to 640x480 i get 60+ fps constant. I'm very confused that on the benchmarks they have the double of my performance.

So my question is this:
What's wrong with my APU? Is it the ram? Is there something wrong on the motherboard?
If i get 2x4Gb Ram @ 1866mhz will i see much difference?

Thanks.

Solution

It should be very similar to the benchmarks. Maybe like 55FPS instead of 60FPS sometimes, but still pretty close.

Dual channel memory would help for sure. Thing is we don't know if test rig for the benches your looking at is overclocked or the specs of it like ram. APU's are RAM dependant so you may see some improvement buy switching to 2 sticks at a higher clock rate

So the website that i saw that had those benchmarks are:
http://www.eteknix.com/complete-amd-kaveri-review-a10-7850k-a10-7700k-a8-7600/3/
http://www.eteknix.com/complete-amd-kaveri-review-a10-7850k-a10-7700k-a8-7600/11/

They are using 2x4Gb ram at 1866Mhz, and as i can see, it think its stock.

Thanks

But is my performance compromised because of all those things? Or its just the Ram that's giving them those scores? For now the only thing that i can afford is the 2x4Gb Ram at 1866mhz. Getting that ram will improve my performance on games by a lot? Or just a little bit more performance?

On CPU-Z i see that's Single channel memory running at 797,8Mhz and on windows 10 task manager it appears at 1600Mhz. I'm very new to this stuff, and this is my first build.

Thanks.

To answer your question directly: Yes, upgrading your RAM to a 2x4GB DDR3-1866 kit should give you a significant increase in performance. Spending a little more to get 2x4GB DDR3-2133 would be a bit better still without a big increase in price, around $60 instead of around $45 assuming you're in the USA.

Just going to the 2x4GB DDR3-1866 kit should roughly double your gaming performance to be around where it is in the link you gave. Your weaker cooler might limit the turbo features a bit, but that won't make a big difference. The lack of an SSD will be easy to see in loading time and things like that, but it too should not be a significant factor in the actual performance while gaming.

I'm in Portugal and im getting the Ram sticks from a local store.

The difference between 2x4Gb at 1866mhz and 2x4 2133mhz its 15 euros, and since i'm in a tight budget I'm going with the 2x4 1866mhz.

I'm afraid that i got a new pc that's not as good as i thought.

Since I'm getting the 1866mhz ones, will i have almost the same performance as i see on the benchmarks? Or will i have like 10 fps increase?

On the 800MHz versus 1600MHz,CPU-Z is correct, it is technically on an 800MHz connection, but DDR transmits data twice per clock for an effective frequency of 1600Mhz. It is technically not 1600MHz, but a lot of places will (incorrectly) just call it that anyway. Don't worry about it. If you want to get really technical. we could say that the RAM chips themselves are also not really running at even 800MHz- that's just the frequency of the connection between them and the CPU's memory controller. The memory in the chips on a DDR3-1600 module are running at 200MHz if I remember correctly.
