Memory Upgrade Not Recognized

Hi,

I upgraded the memory on my Asus N71jq to two 4GB sticks of G.Skill memory. The system only recognizes 4GB of memory. The motherboard is upgradeable to 8GB (checked both the specs and from Crucial's memory checker). The bios only shows 4GB and Crucial's memory checker only shows 1 stick of 4GB. I can boot the laptop with either stick in either slot, so shouldn't be the slots or memory. I also ran Speccy and it see's both sticks as 4GB each. When I check bios, task manager, or computer properties, it only shows 4GB. I also tried resetting bios to defaults.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks!

Duane.

You're right Win 7 Home does support max 16GB RAM.

Other than the OS being 32 bit, I'm out of my league with Laptops so hopefully someone can give you more help.

Best of Luck.

Maybe one last bit... I'm not familiar with Laptops but have a poke around in your BIOS and see if there is maybe a setting that is required to have it check for more/different RAM. I'm just brain-storming, I really don't know much about lappys :(

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium. I think it has a max of 16GB.
It seems like bios isn't recognizing the extra memory for some reason. The memory tester also only saw 4GB. The reset of bios to defaults may not have triggered a reset on the memory detection.

I may have found the problem. I used the newegg memory search tool to pick the ram, and just realized that the RAM it selected rated is 1.5V (while my laptop is at 1.35V). It may be that laptops aren't able to adjust for higher RAM voltage. I should have been more careful matching the specs.

Thanks for your help!
