I want to buy a pc for some light gaming. And I was considering the dell optiplex 745 and the 760 but I don't know the speed their pci express x16. I will be adding a video card to it that's why I want to know their pci express 16 speed. Or pls can any one suggest me a decent pc similar to the dell gx745, am really on a very tight budget.

Buying a OEM pc and then trying to make into a gaming PC is a bad idea.

First of all their power supplies and cooling solutions are not designed for gaming.
Not to mention the other parts are not typically optimal for gaming.

Tell us what your budget is and what kind of games you want to play and we can put together a build for you.

I see.

Then you really need to look at an actual gaming desktop then, or have a built one shipped to you.

Getting one of those mini-towers is a horrible platform for gaming, and you will end up spending more money in the long run overcoming the inadequacies.
The slim towers have different size power supplies that do not have much wattage so even a cheap low end graphics card is not supported by those power supplies. After you pay a considerable amount of money to just get a 400w PSU that fits your case, then you are very limited to only low-profile graphics cards. Then you still have a compacted cases with very very bad airflow and thus bad cooling.

I understand your situation very well, not like others, as I helped users from around the WORLD to do the same on limited resources.

So, if you are one who can spend just little money at a time to upgrade little by little and can not afford, or can not find newer parts due to what ever reasons, please say so and we will proceed, if you can afford new build or much newer PC, I will free the room for others.

Just one thing.

Do you know specs of Optiplex 745 and Optiplex 760 you thinking about? If you not, it is just pointless to decide, judging just by models.

Thanks but I just want an OEM built. Right now parts for a custom built in my area is more expensive. Dats why am considering a normal OEM built and like I said am really on a tight budget . so pls suggest me a pc dat will at least meat my requirements.

Understandable, lets proceed.

Since you are thinking purchasing, you probably know something about those 2 PCs, I need to know as much as you know. Do you have Internet links to possible choices, non English language is OK.

I hope you not buying something, not knowing what you are buying

You should know some characteristics or specifications.

The main are:

What processor (CPU) those PCs have.

What are the Form Factors for possible purchases are they Mini Tower, Desktop, Small Form Factor or Ultra Small Form Factor (the shitiest)

Do you have access to Q6600 used processors in Ghana, some type of similar Internet sites for PC parts?

Problem with Optiplex 760 is that it was manufactured with 2 different motherboards, one supporting QUADS and the other - only Core 2 Duo, so if your choice has already Core 2 Duo, it is not a good idea.

Optiplex 745 can support up to QX6700 or QX 6800, and as well Q6600. But Form Factor is also important here - for cooling. Dell created little GEM with 745 - it can be upgraded well beyond Dell expectations, given old parts availability.

So, what do you know about your targets?

Oh Lordy, are you are talking about shady dealers selling PCs from those dumps:

Or they choose what can be sold and the rest going there, I think it is correct.

Is that the source of those PCs

So, if I am right http://www.pbs.org/frontlineworld/stories/ghana804/video/video_index.html

You are about to get something what was shipped to your country as electronic waste, is this correct....

Leaving sad political talk aside.... Our FORUM is not a place for this.

Can you find out what you are about to buy?

If you can not - you have to choose Optiplex 745 Mini Tower if possible, as it can be upgraded for sure.

Are you planning to buy new or used, if used, are those coming from electronic waste shipments?

Are you planning to upgrade major components like processor later, or just maybe memory and video card?

Can you buy something more recent, newer? Can this be Inspiron models?

Yea am planning to buy a new one and I will upgrade the video card and ram. Also I can't afford a recent pc. I was thinking of the dell optiplex gx 760 and the 74 can u Pls suggest me another one plsss

You can not buy new Optiplex 760, it has been manufactured long time ago. So, if someone sells new old PCs, do not trust them.

Can you afford Optiplex 980, 390, 790, 990, all of them produced in 2010?

Unless you are buying high end video cards, the PCIe bus speed is irrelevant.
Any card suitable to go into an older Dell would run fine even at PCIe x4 never find the full 16 lanes of an x16 slot.

Radeon 7750, NVidia 730 with GDDR5, either is a good low budged video card for games at lower settings or older games.
