good place to not conduct a static charge while building a Pc

Hi guys, I'm just wondering what would be a good place to build a gaming pc in a home?
I have a place, for example my dinning room, but I'm not sure if my wooden varnished table would collect a positive charge plus I have carpet as well.
So would this be a good place to build a Pc since I literally have no other place to build one?

To be honest, while it's entirely admirable to try and minimize any potential for static discharge by grounding yourself to the case every so often (By touching the case), especially after walking from and back to the computer, I've build literally hundreds of computers while sitting on the carpet in my pajamas and socks, for comfort.

If you have a wooden table, that should be perfectly fine. Just touch the case every now and then to discharge any potential, but improbable, charge that may build up or before handling components after walking away and returning. It's probably best, to further mitigate any potential static discharge, to wear shoes if you'll be likely to be walking back and forth on the carpet. Socks on carpet when walking tends to build a charge rather easily.

Not getting in hot water with the Mrs is a much higher priority than other considerations. You can replace hardware. Can't replace your cojones.

Cardboard works well too. Cut the side off a big box, put that on the table and it works well in a pinch. I too have a dedicated work bench for builds, but in the winter when it's really cold in the shop and the moisture/crystals in the air, gets too bad, I make allowances and work where I can in the house.
