Can I use a system image that I have on a external HD to retrieve a program that is no longer available for downloading, then return to a more recent image?

My idea is to restore my system to an earlier image then copy to a zip drive the folder that contains the program files I want...
Next I'll do another system restore using a more recent image and then re-load the program from the zip drive, back on to C:\ drive...
(doing the second image recovery is in order to eliminate having to re-do all the changes I've made to my system since the earlier image was created)

I have a system Image I created on 7/30/15 and one dated 9/24/15...I moved each of them into separate new folders immediately after doing the backups so they wouldn't get overwritten by later system images...
(I used Windows built in Backup program which includes creating a System Image)

SO -
Is what I'm thinking feasible?

I'm pretty sure all the program's files, the .exe, the drivers etc. are contained in a single folder in C:\ Program Files\Gadwin ...I went through all the backed up zip folders on the ext HD but apparently C:\ does not get backed up via folders, just the C:\Users folder is included...

The program version I want to retrieve has been replaced by a newer version.
BUT I liked some of the features in the old version better and those features are eliminated in the new version.
--The old version is freeware: Gadwin PrintScreen 4.2
-- The new version is freeware PrintScreen 5.4.2
The program's developer says they no longer can supply the old version.

Thank-you Vic 40...exactly what I wanted...
I downloaded and installed 4.7 from the link you posted and it's working perfectly.
.
(Gadwin PrintScreen 4.7 is the version I wanted...I miss-typed 4.2 in my post above).

I have both the new and old versions working on my Win 7 machines...
One click re-sizes, auto-names AND saves to the same file I created...
PrintScreen 4.7 is set up to capture just the window in focus...(using the center mouse button)
Printscreen 5.4.2 is set up capture the entire screen that's under the cursor...(using a keyboard button)

Having both versions is very handy for me - as I take many snapshots every day
and my trade station setup is spread across 6 monitors.
