I am making my own PC and welcome all criticism and advice. I will be using it mainly for student work and gaming. Only using one screen, and not using a sound card.

Here are my planned parts:

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X Gaming 7
Processor: Intel core i5-4690k
Memory: G.Skill RipjawZ 16GB
Hard Drive: WD Blue 1TB Hard Drive
GPU: GTX 960 Gigabyte OC (WF/2OC)
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 120gb
CPU Cooler: Cooler master: Hyper 212 EVO

Here are some concerns of mine:

Will these parts be able to work together?
How do I know which case to buy and if that case will fit everything. (I was thinking to get a mid tower one)
How do I know how much power these parts will use (so I can decide on a power supply)?
Are these the best parts for value out there?
Am I missing out on anything? (Besides the power supply)
How many fans do I need? Might buy some if the case I choose doesn't have enough.
Where is the best place to buy these items? People seem to like to buy items from New Egg, is there any better places?
Do I need a wifi card or does my motherboard contain something likes that?

I read this online (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/the-geek-blog/building-a-new-computer-part-1-choosing-hardware/)

"When buying memory, make sure that you buy memory that matches the memory standard… if the board only accepts DDR2 1066, 4×240 pin memory, make sure that you get memory that matches."

Don't really get it........ Does my memory match with my board?

If you are going to recommend me a different item to replace my current choices, please keep the suggestions in the same price range, and it would be nice if you explained why.

Thanks for taking your time to read this and please speak in simple terms, I'm not really knowledgeable in PC building.

Solution
Yes those parts will work together.
Go to PCPartPicker and select all the parts, then search for compatible cases.
^ but search for a compatible power supply (after you find the case), also don't buy a cheap PSU, buy something made by, EVGA, Seasonic,XFX or Antec (High Current Gamer).
The 280x is better than the GTX 960, but uses more power and its pretty much the same price.
Some cases come with fans out of the box.
Amazon,Newegg, NCIX US...
Every motherboard should be able to use Ethernet, but only some motherboards have Wi-Fi antennas.

There is DDR2 memory, DDR3 and the newest, DDR4...
The most common memory is DDR3, so your motherboard matches the memory.

Distinguished
1. Your case needs to have ATX motherboard compatibility
2. I would suggest a 550-600 Watt tier one or tier two psu (found here) but keep in mind that if you want to upgrade in the future you should get a bigger one
2.1 Example: Tier one, Tier two
3. They are good value items, no problem with that
4. You're not missing anything in the list (except the case but you mentioned that)
5. Standard i would get a front (intake) and a rear (exhaust)
6. Newegg is a popular place for items, I don't know any other place to buy them. You could try amazon but newegg is better
7. You'll need a wifi adapter since your motherboard doesn't have it built in

The ram: Your motherboard needs DDR3 ram, be sure your ram is DDR3 not DDR4 or DDR2 'cause they won't fit
