Hello everyone, here to ask for some help with this please.. I've been trying to figure this out myself reading and all, but have come to a dead end..

PC specs:
-CPU: Phenom II X4 955BE 3.2 Ghz (no O.C)
-Mobo: ASRock 960GM-VGS3 FX - (Bought this one thinking about upgrading to a FX processor)
-RAM: 1x4 GB DDR3 1333mhz
-HDD: 500 GB Samsung, 7200rpm
-Video: EVGA GT 520, now running the integrated ATI.
-Case: Generic Case 2x 80mm Fans for airflow, in and out.
-PSU: Omega 800w (Generic non certified) has a really big fan too.
-Screen: 32 inch Panasonic Viera TV, wich I used on HDMI, now running on VGA port.
-OS: Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 Bits

Note: (Since the problem started I took off the GT 520 to see if that was the problem, and started running with the integrated ATI card)

Most of the components are 4-5 yrs old, except the motherboard wich I bought in replacement of my old MSI mother board that died last year. So this new motherboard is like, 7 months old.

The main problem is that, when the computer is under stress ''i presume'' (i.e gaming or photoshop, heck.. even playing a shockwave flash game) the computer just goes on black screen, and I have to reset it manually in order for it to boot up again.. There are no dmp files on the minidump folder either, nor i get a pop up window with any error message. It's just like i resetted/shutted down the computer 'the bad way'..

I can be on internet (chrome, firefox) watching anime, movies, you name it, with multiple tabs, and haven't encountered with any trouble at all, except for that flash game wich is kinda resource heavy when i had my GT it used to shut down too, now runing with the integrated ATI it doesn't shut down anymore (with hardware acceleration turned off), other than that, for simple tasks it runs fine.

What i've seen:

- Keyboard leds do turn off, mouse also loses power..
- Fans keep running, ethernet LED is also turned on.. Didn't really check if the HDD keeps running, will do on the next shutdown.

Its just looks like it shuts to some kind of hibernation or something (Power management options are set to not do this anyway).

I'm not a heavy gamer, mostly play League of Legends (under lowest settings), on windowed mode, or Dungeon Fighter Online, wich is a game with low graphics, a 2D online side-scroller brawler like golden axe (not as good as golden axe tho hehe) with low graphics.

On photoshop I do some heavy work wich requires a little more usage, however, it shutted down only once doing this.

The machine ran fine, played many games wich could run with my poor GT520 back then (From batman to borderlands), then I just stopped that 'heavy gaming' and sticked to League/HoTS/DFO.. Without encountering any trouble, until this showed up after i dropped those games for months.

-The tests i ran: (more likely the tests i can run with my knowledge limit)

First I thought it was an overheat problem, did some monitoring with HWinfo, SpeedFan and Asrock O.C Tuner, SpeedFan and HWinfo show the temps at 46° on idle for the CPU and 37° for the MoBo. O.C Tuner, shows 45° on the CPU and 37° on the Mobo..

Under gaming, League of Legends, on windowed, all low graphics, CPU goes to 55-56°, same goes for Dungeon fighter.. None of those are required heavy resources.

All this was monitored after replacing thermal paste and blowing dust off. (I regularly clean the pc dust every 2-3 weeks)..

Upgraded BIOS, everything is on default, there are no O.C settings on it.

Now im really confused about this, the motherboard is dying?? or is this a PSU failure??

Been reading a lot about this but I can't find something that points me the direction I should go on testing.

It all started from 2 weeks for now, the motherboard isn't even 1 yr old.

I ordered a brand new PSU (EVGA W1 500w 80+) and also a Gtx 750Ti card, so im pretty scared that I can't install those, they might damage or something from all the sudden shutdowns.. Unless it's the PSU of course..

I'd really appreciate some help with this, its driving me nuts already and i don't really know what is happening :'(

Ps: Sorry if my english isn't really good, tried to be as clear as possible, i'm from Venezuela.

Solution
1. Did you uninstall the Nvidia drivers, and use DDU to clean out registries, then update to ati drivers? There may be driver conflicts occurring here.
2. Power Supply may be on it's last leg, try swapping it first with your new one without adding your new GPU, and see if that works. If it does, add your new GPU. If it doesn't you can still add your new GPU and see if that fixes the issue. If that works, motherboard is likely on it's way out, or just it's video output is going bad.
3. RAM may be on it's last leg, try running memtest.
4. If these things all pass, then your motherboard may be seeing it's last days.

Try this order:Check to see if Nvidia drivers are still installed, run memtest, replace PSU, replace GPU.

Hello! Thank you very much for replying.

Yesterday the package arrived to my house finally (International shipments suck), i was impressed at the PSU to be honest, since i had 'generic' Omega one, this one feels so solid, heavy as hell too, has so many cables and stuff, i was trippin' to be honest.. EVGA does make some high class quality products.

1) I did uninstall the Nvidia Drivers, used DDU and then went on the Asrock webpage to download the integrated graphic card (ATI *insert numbers here*) after cleaning up the nvidia drivers. But with the ATI its the same story, so that's what made me think it wasn't related to the GPU.

2) Also ran a memtest and passed w/o any issues encountered, tried several times to be honest..

3) Since the package arrived, i just swapped the PSU yesterday, the PC has been running w/o encountering with the sudden black screen of annihilation haha.. By the time of this post, it'd be like almost 24 hrs running.

Now related to the new GPU.. Sadly since the MoBo is a micro-ATX, and its a Generic (modified by me) case, i have to make some more mods, since the new GPU doesn't fit in the case, guess that'd be my weekend project hehe.. Then i'll be running with the new PSU and GPU some heavy gaming to see if its the MoBo, would suck if it is the MoBo, its less than 1 yr old..

Hope it was just the PSU.. Wich was really old, around 2 years. Let's see how it goes with this new beauty.

Thank you really for replying :)

Yep, seems like it was PSU related :)

I'm now using both the EVGA 500w PSU and the 750Ti, haven't encountered any issues.

Thanks for taking your time to reply and help :) i really appreciate it.

Cheers

Your symptoms describe what I'm having to the T. During normal flash use and games seemingly random blackscreen, and laptop won't shut down completely, unless in Safe Mode (for whatever reason). Trying another PSU for a change, ironically one which overheated unless I put a waterbottle on top of it. Hope it'll shut down next time, and I won't get a blackscreen anymore. It already passed one blacksceen test that so far always failed with the other one... But I don't get my hopes up.
Just mentioning this in advance because I still have some hope, and the symptoms are so similar.

Edit: I actually have one more major symptom: Continuous beeping and shutdowns during startup at random times (and no beeping etc. at others).

Edit 2: Okay, it didn't shut down, and suddenly it blackscreens everytime during normal flash players, at least with hardware acceleration on (which is part of the test). So much for that. If the PSUs have something to do with it, I'm not likely to find out. It seems to be the GPU or something connecte with it. Could also be a fried function of the CPU. Or I should check their sockets, but I usually need a lot of preparation for something like that (and perhaps I'd need to buy new paste), and it almost seems like some lasting damage is already done.
