My PC is 3 years old now and starting to show it's age when it comes to gaming so I'm looking to upgrade soon and need some advice.

my specs -

GPU - msi gtx 670 2GB
CPU - i5-3570k with a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Mobo - ASRock Z77 Extreme4
RAM - G.Skill Ares 8GB
PSU - XFX Pro750W XXX Edition

I was thinking about upgrading the GPU and getting another 8 GB of ram.

Oh and my case is NZXT Phantom 410, not sure if space is an issue with the newer cards ... been a while since I've done any research.

Thanks,
Kev

also, as far as budget goes I guess I'd like to stay under $800 or so

A titan is 100% not worth the money!!!!!!
What card to get would depend on the monitor you have for a single 1080p monitor with a standard 60 refresh rate a GTX 970 is a good buy and the GTX 980 will play every game out about the best it can be played.
Their really no...

Depending on your budget a GTX 980 would be a nice upgrade even a 970 would work, space should be a nonfactor the center drive cage is removable in that case. It will also fit a 12" video card with the cage still installed.
For adding more memory that's not really going to help your gaming performance one bit.
I would be looking at the video card and consider a decent aftermarket CPU cooler and overclock the processor a bit.

I'm Guessing you want to upgrade the GPU as well? Depending on how much you want to spend on the card, you can get a GTX 970 for around 300-350 dollars(USD). IF you want an AMD card, maybe get a R9 280x. It is cheaper than the 970, at around 250, but It will get the job done.

As for the RAM, make sure that you get the same mhz as the other RAM(e.g. 1600mhz, 2133mhz), because anything else is just more expensive but you still have to run it at the slower RAMS speed. I would Recommend G.Skill RAM, simply because of their reputation and their customer support. I have never had to use the customer support, but I have heard it is very quick and easy.

Cheers,

updated OP with cpu cooler and budget info.

I'm interested in the 980, are there any brands that stand out from the rest? I've went with msi the last few gpu's I've bought and haven't had any issues...

And as far as more ram, I'm wanting to start editing gameplay/outdoor sports vids, which probably means I'll need to upgrade CPU soon as well.

With that said, are the Titans really worth the extra money or will I still need an upgrade in another few years?

Their really no reason to upgrade the processor does it really matter if what you edit takes 10 minutes or 12 minutes.
The extra memory might help with editing but will not help with gaming.
With that budget keep the CPU cooler you have, overclock your processor up to about 4.3/4.4, add another set of the exact memory you have (this is still questionable) buy you a MSI GTX 980 and your all set.
The gaming performance difference from a GTX 670 to a GTX 980 is huge!
