I ordered this Dell PC XPS 8700 and I'm having it shipped to me in Egypt where the power rating is 220v. I ordered right away without worrying because 3 years ago when I was in Florida I got an HP laptop and it worked in Egypt right away (110-220v on the charger) .... but now I'm worried since this is a PSU not a charger...

1- are they rated to work everywhere or not? If not,
2- what's gonna happen to the PC itself when I plug it in?
3- if I got a new PSU 220v 500W and installed it, will that be ok to the rest of the PC?

Solution
If in doubt, contact Dell.

I'm not sure if it's a requirement for modern PSU's or not to support both. I suspect yes.

From the pictures I saw there was no manual switch. If it does support auto-switching then all you would need is an adapter to fit the end of the power cable.

When you get there also buy a proper 220V surge supressor.
