The hard drive is approaching the end of it's life - - failure is imminent.

I'm really sorry to hear about the failure in your WD Red HDD!
You should still try testing it with Data LIfeGuard Diagnostics in the available WD Software here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=XNWrF8
It does sound back, so you should definitely contact our customer support. If your WD Red is still covered by the warranty, you should send your RMA request in order to get a replacement form us.
