I read somewhere that the core i7 can't communicate with each, but the xeon can. if I have a server motherboard and put in two core i7, will the motherboard only recognize only of the CPUs?

Hi

Motherboard manufacturers supply list of compatible CPU's for each motherboard

they will probably specify how close a pair of CPU's have to be (eg same stepping)
compatibility may well vary according to BIOS version

Have you done your research on manufacturers web site?

what socket is on the motherboard ? and is it I7 compatible

this article on subject of i7 V Xenon CPU is useful
not all xeons are suitable for dual socket server boards
