I have just had do a fresh resinstall of windows 8 on my ssd because the drive became locked after using it with a sata USB cable on my laptop.

Now that I have reformatted the drive and completely reinstalled windows 8, the reboot takes twice as long and windows seems a bit slower.

The only difference between this fresh install and the original install is that the ssd had 3 partitions as now has only one.

Could this affect performance and reboot times?

Does a boot partition make windows reboot faster?

Thanks in advance.

Solution
1. If the SSD came with any software use it to run a TRIM. All the write and re-writing you've done may have filled it with to much garbage.
2. If your have multiple drives then go into the BIOS and make sure the SSD is 1st in the HDD boot order.
3. Partitions can help boot time a little with older mechanical drives. The first partition will keep windows data on the inside of the disk where a traditional hdd reads/writes the fastest. This however is not a problem with SSD.

Solution
the other partions on the laptop was the restore software for the laptop. if you wiped this off the laptop then your missing drivers for the mb and other hardware. i would go to the laptop web page and make sure all of the drivers for the laptop are loaded. i would also make sure you got there restore cd and put the right image back onto the laptop.
