Hello Tomshardware!

i'm planning to buy a GTX 950 or 960 for my core 2 quad (Q9550)
I have 8Go ram and 2,8 Ghz And i want to play on games at 1920x1080 resolution
Will there be a bottleneck and how much?

Thanks guys!

I'd like to share some benchmarks with you, featuring a comparison between a Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.0 Ghz + a GTX 670 and an i5-3570 (stock) and GTX 670. The GTX 670 is relevant, because it performs almost as well as a GTX 960.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/4683822 <--- stock i5-3570K + GTX 670, 3DMark Vantage score 31247

As you can see, there is a dramatic difference in scores, even though the GPU is exactly the same. So I'd say you *will* see a good bit of bottlenecking.

For a 960, there may be a little. I had a 9550 @ 3.2 paired with a 460 GTX years back and I felt that was a balanced build. The 960 GTX has a similar performance level to a 580 GTX which would be a small stretch for a 9550. You'll most likely notice a hit in CPU based games. That's where the Core2 is going to show it's age.
