Laptop keeps shutting down?

It shuts down randomly (it might be because my laptop is overheated even though I have a laptop cooler)
My laptop is like 4 years old and its battery is broken so I keep it plugged in all the time. I also installed windows 10 and sometimes the start menu for it does not work.
Should I just get a new laptop? If so what kind?

Before you purchase a new laptop, try a fresh install of windows 10.
Press windows key -> Search for "Reset this PC" -> Press "Get started" -> Press "Remove everything"
Just remember to back up any files that you want to keep!

If it is in fact overheating, open it up and get the dust off with canned air.

If you're lazy and just want to buy a new laptop, don't buy a cheap shit-laptop. Then you might as well keep the one you have. What do you use it for? Do you play games, or do you just browse facebook all day?

Thanks I might try reinstalling windows! But I am getting a new laptop around probably next year. I usually browse and do schoolwork on my laptop and have at l least 1 game on my computer. Any suggestions?
