I would like to install windows again on a new storage device.

My plan is to remove my old drive completely and install Windows on an SSD first, then to put a HDD in for the rest of my files.

Now my concern is, how do i set this all up? How do I make sure that no other files go into the SSD and that my HDD becomes the main drive where everything goes to, despite the SSD having the OS on it.

2 things, one is auto, you set dl, pagefile, etc etc to be used in D drive (hdd) ND the other is you personally, whenever you dl/install anything manually, you must change the save drive from C to D. Not a hard concept to catch on to unless you are like me and have a completely non-technical savvy wife who just clicks auto install to c drive

Just redirect the libraries that you want to save to the other HDD, and then choosing 'My Documents' or 'Pictures' will save there.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/redirect-folder-new-location#1TC=windows-7

For programs, if you want any/all/some to go to the HHD too, just make that selection when the program installs (may need to look into 'custom' install option or similar during the installation manger process).

If you are going to save both library data and program files on the HDD vs the SSD, I would create two parent folders ('Data' and 'Programs', for instance) to keep 'em separated.....

hmm ok. I just worry as i fear most things auto install to the C drive and so i dont want to have to deal with that kind of thing when i really only want the OS there.

120GB minimum, 250 is a better price vs size ratio.
Or a 500GB if your budget allows.

Don't let anything autoinstall. Custom or Advanced, and go through all the dialogboxes.
In addition to letting you decide where it goes, many application also try to sneak in some crapware. If you allow the default, you also allow the crapware.

On your HDD, right click and select 'New FOlder'
Give it a name - MyStuff
Use that as a target for future installations.

The concept of when i have both drives setup and running is ok to me. Its just essentially choosing where things go afetr that.

But what i am confused about is the "setup".

I read online about something to do with the bios, making sure I put SSD as number 1 and HDD as number 2 or something like this? Do i do this once ive installed Windows on the SSD?

I also read something about computer management > disk management and maybe needing to "activate" or format either of the drives (Which i never did either on my old HDD)
