Little homemade cooling system - Will it work?

So I am largely paranoid about my components overheating. I just have a fear that if I don't keep the gpu cool, it won't last me as long as I want.

I figured that to battle this fear, I should get more ventilation. But I was being stupid while looking at the case, it was the last thing I was looking at, then right when I found one with usb 3.0 headers, I ordered it. Stupid, I know.

Then I noticed that the back has an opening and I could hopefully stick a fan in there. So I tried it.
I took off all of those little... Blocker....things off of the back. As you will be able to see in the picture. I would stick a fan in the bottom of the case and have air flow outta the PC. To make the gpu fan not be blowing the same warm air.

I did a little test and a felt a lot of air from that fan go out the back. I have the gtx 970 btw. Also, I only want to get a new case at the last resort. I don't want to switch. I have no idea how and what to do to move the components.

Do you think this would work? Will it cool the gpu a bit? Can I raise the Lego platform to improve efficiency?

Wasted time and a fan, your probably actually hurting the cooling. Well maybe not since the video card will be sucking it up but you will see nothing that counts. If your actually blowing air out the back of the PCI slots on the case then your hurting the performance because that air has not really done nothing for cooling the PC.
The extra fan is blowing your cool intake flow out the back of the case before it really does anything.

So how could I effectively cool the gpu?
