MOBO not recognizing HDD?

I can't install an OS in my new computer. I've recently assembled it, and although everything is working normally, when I try to install Windows nothing appears on the screen, it just remains black, with not even the BIOS showing up, although the monitor detects the computer . When I tried to boot Ubuntu, the PC recognized it, and ran normally. But when I tried to install Ubuntu, it said more space was needed (5,3 GB or so) even with the HD on. Because of that, I assumed that it wasn't recognizing the HD. I've been trying to reconnect the cables, to change the SATA cable, to use another entrances in the MOBO, but nothing changed, Ubuntu would still not recognize the HD.
I'd be glad if anyone could help me with this issue. Is it my HD that's defective? Or could it be anything else?

I've you've forgotten to connect the power cable and everything worked out fine there wasn't any need for you to continue with the troubleshooting options. Removing/changing the CMOS battery should be a pretty simple procedure. If have not physically damaged anything on the motherboard, then this shouldn't be an issue. Make sure that you've placed it back properly and consult the motherboard's manual on how to do that.

Please keep me posted.
Hey there, Kamininha.

Even without an HDD you should be able to access your mobo's BIOS/UEFI. It sounds like something's not right. Try reconnecting each cable and component, to make sure that everything's connected properly. How did you boot to Ubuntu? Did you use Ubuntu Live USB/DVD? If you're worried that the HDD might not be working, I'd recommend that you connect it to a different computer, either externally (via a SATA to USB adapter, a docking station, or an external enclosure), or internally via a SATA connection, to see if the same thing happens. As for the BIOS, try taking the CMOS battery out and then put it back in its place, to see if you'd be able to load your BIOS.

Please let me know how everything goes.

Hey, thank you very much for the quick answer, turns out I just forgot to connect the power cable to the hdd, now Ubuntu recognized it. Although, I tried to take out the CMOS battery out then putting it back, but now nothing shows up on the screen. Before actually trying to take out and putting back the battery, I managed to succesfully install Ubuntu in my PC. Then I tried to do the battery thing, so I'm scared I messed up something because of nothing showing up. What do you think I should do?

Hello Boogieman_WD. Thank you again for your help, but since I created this thread because of a problem in my HDD, I think I should close it as solved. Because of the problems with my MOBO and its BIOS, I think it's reasonable to create another thread for this. I'm kind of new here, how do I close the thread as solved, so people know that the problem with my HDD was just not connecting the power cables? Thanks.

Well, usually you click the "Pick as the solution" button on the post you think has covered the issue or has helped you resolve it. If there's no post, which falls in that category, you're OK leaving the thread as it is, until eventually someone else gives a proper and better solution.

Do you still have the same issue with the motherboard? In most cases, changing or removing a CMOS battery is not really different from replacing/removing a clock's battery or some other similar device. If you're still having problems, I'd recommend that you contact the motherboard manufacturer's customer support and ask for assistance.

Good luck!

I'll do that. Thanks again, Boogieman_WD!
