PSU advice, weird case

Hi I have a kind of weird PC case where my PSU is right under the HD bay. I think I should upgrade my PSU since calculating all my components under full load (based on benchmarks and common wisdom) are nearing the 550W output of my supply. So my question is twofold: how badly do you think I'm need of an upgrade, and what are the concerns I should have about where my PSU is placed? I'll provide a pic so I don't have to explain it:

As you can see it's at the bottom front of the case, and its fan is on the front, next to the power switch. I'm noticing newer models have a big fan on top of the PSU, which in may case would set it right against the HDD bay, or, I could flip it upside down and it'd be about 1cm off the bottom of my case (which is not vented). Wondering what the best configuration is and if there's anything I should be worried about.

Also, here's my components: AMD Phenom II Black x4 965, ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO, Radeon r( 380, 8gb DDR3, 2 HDDs, 2 DVD drives, 3.5" card reader, couple external usb3 drives, wifi adapter, bluetooth adapter all drawing power.

Going to update my CPU, mobo, ram etc in a year or so for rendering work. Just gaming and light rendering now. Should I wait til then to upgrade my PSU or would I benefit from doing it now? Would rather buy an SSD first :/, PSU is such a boring thing to buy.

Thanks!

These are some of the best power supplies out there. They are linked to pcpartpicker.com, and the prices I show were what they were last time I looked (a week ago). Prices can and do change frequently. Even daily at times. So click on the links to see what they are showing as the current lowest price for each power supply.

SeaSonic S12II 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Non-Modular ATX Power Supply $57.99

SeaSonic M12II 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $65.99

SeaSonic S12II 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Non-Modular ATX Power Supply $64.99

SeaSonic M12II 620W SLI Ready 80+ Bronze Certified Full Modular Active PFC Power Supply $88.99 - $10.00 Promo ends Sept 29 =...
The power supply in that case is a standard ATX sized unit. Any other ATX size power supply out there will fit the case just fine. If you would like more info, I found this review... http://www.bjorn3d.com/2006/07/antec-neo-he-550-power-supply/

Hum was the case, or is it from a pre built system such as dell, Hp ect.
It would explain why the PSU is in such a place.

Anyway a PSU might be a boring component, but it is the heart of any pc and a critical one to say the least.
I would upgrade the PSU in all honesty.
The picture was good enough to get a look at what the amp rating was for your 12v rails.
And at 18A amps it`s pretty poor.

And if you were planning to buy a more new graphics card say mid range.
Seriously begin to have problems with an unstable system running with a new card.

So yes think about a good branded quality power supply with more wattage, if you are planning to do some more upgrading soon in the next month or so.

No it's a homebuilt PC in an old Lian-li case from about 2008, which is how old the PSU is.

Guess I'll upgrade the PSU before getting an SSD.

Does anyone have a good PSU recommendation for my parts list?

Thanks.

Thanks! Found the Evga for $82, figured it's be nice to have the extra wattage for overclocking headroom and future upgrades. Also heard it was very quiet compared to the Seasonics.
