Hey guyz,
That's my first post although i read this forum many years now.

So my lil bro's old gtx 580 died a couple of days ago and since his birthday coming up i am gonna buy him an new gpu.my budget is around 170 euro including transport and at this price range i can get an r9 280x for 164euro and a r9 380 2gb for 158 euro. These prices might seem to you a bit low but thats because i will import them to my country (Greece) from Germany without paying VAT.
So my bro's rig has an i3-4160 sitting on an h97 asrock performance with 8gb of ram.All this powered by an 630 watt 80+ bronze thermaltake psu. he plays at 1080@60hz mostly LoL , CS:go , Aion ,n1z1 and GTA V. My first choice for his rig would be an r9 380 4gb cause he wants to start streaming and frapsing his gta V at ultra settings and cause he ll keep this card for minimum 2 years. But like i said before i can only afford the 2 cards i mention in the title.

So the real question is raw power and 3gb of ram vs newer tech and longer support with a bit less horse power and ram.

Thank you all in advance

R9 280X is a better performer than R9 380 even though R9 380 had new generation features like having FreeSync support, more feature packed video decode/encode engine, better power efficiency etc. Considering 4GB version of R9 380 is not a bad idea. Having more GPU RAM wont make much difference in average fps but frame rate fluctuations would be lower and helps getting steady smoother frame rate.

What I am recommending is that between R9 380 2GB vs R9 280X I vote for R9 280x. But R9 380 4GB vs R9 280X I recommend going with the R9 380 4GB.

so many reviews proved its not just a rebrand but a refresh with several impovements and ofc better driver support.

P.S this is the first time ever i even consider an AMD over an NVIDIA .I went red for now lol
