Fast SSD for Open-World Games.

Right now I'm using a Hitachi 1 TB HDD for all of my storage needs and it does the job pretty handily. I do a lot of gaming on my PC but unfortunately my HDD can't keep up with the rest of my hard drive when playing certain open-world games. The Witcher 3 is a game where my hard drive most noticeably ways down my PC's performance. The game stutters in certain areas when it shouldn't and I'm 90% sure it's a hard drive issue. Hitching is actually the word I'd used instead of stutter. I'm trying to find a fast SSD with at least 240 GB of storage space. The Samsung 850 EVO looked like a good choice. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I had the same issue with Witcher 3 - and upgraded my 1TB HDD with a 2TB hybrid - worked like a charm - only a few seconds between scene switches as opposed to over 20-30. Otherwise put it on a SSD and you will get even faster response times.

I would consider a boot SSD and a storage HDD (the hybrid is very zippy). If your boot SSD is large enough you can put a large game on it as needed.

The only advantage with a SSD in gaming is Zone Loading and Loading things beyond your Draw settings so unless you have your Draw setings extremely low then a SSD isn't going to increase your average play you may need to look at reducing settings. What is your GPU? Most if not all MMO's are pretty CPU dependent.

It's the EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0. My frame rate is very good even when The Witcher 3 does hitch or stutter. I was watching the frame counter and it was at 70-72 on average at ultra settings (no Hairworks) and when it hitched it would drop no more than 5 fps on average. It doesn't look like a stutter at all because all it does is skip a frame or two but it only does it once and then runs like normal and maybe ten or 15 seconds later it'll skip again and then go back to normal. It all depends on the area too. I was testing the game in Skellige at the time.
