i have the r9 390 (no X edition) with 8gb ram. and i want to buy an r9 290X 4gb.
can these two models be used for crossfire? thanks

Solution
Solution to the above problem is to unlock the shaders on the r9 390 (if possible).

You will still lose out on the extra ram, but I think DX 12 adds the ram together so you would have 12 gb vram total.

To make things simpler I would just get another r9 390 unless the r9 290x is cheaper.

Yeah you can CF them, but you'd be wasting 50% of the 390s VRAM and the R9 290x would have a good chunk of its shaders disabled to match the R9 390. Not sure why a 290x, the R9 390 is slightly more powerful than the R9 290x regardless, and not sure where you live, but in the US the R9 390 is considerably cheaper too.
