so i am on fast adsl 2+ and my download speed on speedtest.net is roughly 2Mbps with no one else on the internet, and that is just to slow, compared to my next door neighbor who is on the same plan and they get about 11Mbps, so i've got the modem from telstra, no special one or anything, and i was wondering if i bought a better modem would it become faster if i got one (and would you be able to link me one) or is there anything i could to to get it faster. and i don't have that Qos thing to limit everyone elses internet so i can get it faster on my PC. and it is just becoming shit now and i am getting a little over it.

So thanks in advance to any help!

anyone able to help? :(

Solution
xDSL connections depend a lot of the quality of the copper line between the modem and ISP' equipment. Get your modem, and go to your neighbor. Plug your modem in his phone line, and check speeds. If they are as expected, you either have sloppy phone connection somewhere inside your house (which you have to fix yourself), or sub-par phone line from the telco (in that case you have to call them).

how would one go about fixing this line?

YOU have to find out whether the problem is with the phone cable which runs from Telco to your home, or there is something bad inside your house.
- Make sure all connected phonesets have DSL filter installed..
- your Telco would probably charge a fee if you call them to complain, and the problem is inside your house.
