I've been doing a great deal of research, but I haven't been able to come up with a solid card for my system. I use to be so into this back in the day, but in my old age I haven't kept up with all this newfangled tech.

Win 7 64
Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo)
G.SKILL Value 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DD
ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s
SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TL
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Ca - OEM
APEX AL-D500EXP 500W ATX12V Power Supply
Acer H236HL Monitor

I was looking at the GTX 750 TI, but that seems a little sluggish. Its well under my budget, but something like the GTX 950 may be the better choice. Don't look at that and think those are the only ones I am interested in. I have at least 4 or 5 running around in my head, so regardless throw out any suggestions on cards. I'm not set on anything specific, and any links would be helpful.

Much appreciated for any help you can give me!

For this budget I must insist on on this card, For the price nothing can touch this 290

While this trails in a fairly close second

Ouch I just noticed the psu, it's pretty scrappy but 190 after mir that still leaves you enough for a decent 500 watt psu which will be plenty for the 280x and 3570k if you are alright with the MIR on the 280x

Here is a psu to push your setup with a 280x

While the 280 x is old tech it was made to last and as you can see is noticeably faster than any nvidia competitor in the same price range.

This link shows the gtx 670 which will be give or take 2-3% slower or faster depending on the game and resolution.

Thanks for the replies!

For my build, I think I'm going to go with the 280X with a new psu. If I went with the gtx 960, or the 290, it looks like I'd need a new psu regardless. Price wise, that should be keep me close to my budget.

Since I've got y'all here...

I actually built two of these cps, one for me and one for my friend a few years ago. I mentioned this upgrade and now he's all gung-ho about getting one as well. The only issue with him is his budget is $150. smh

Switching gears to a lower price point, I've been looking at GTX950, R9-270, R9-270X, and GTX 750 Ti for him. What do y'all think about those, or any recommendations for something around $150? My main concern now is the psu.

Thanks!
