Need a router with advanced QoS

Hi, I am looking for a router that will:

- allow me to actually throttle bandwidth of a device on the home network
- define total allowed bandwidth (data) consumption in a fixed period
- see site logs for a device on the network
- throttle connection speeds per site

And have other QoS stuff if possible.

Not aware of a home type router that will do all that. Commerical routers offer more QoS control but at some cost.

You might consider some compromise such as DD-WRT or Tomato firmware to modify a home router. Especially if you happen to have a compatible router available. Not all routers can be modified.

The modification process can be tricky and it does require some careful reading, planning, and execution to avoid bricking the target router.

In any case prioritize your requirements and perhaps expand a bit on "other QoS stuff". Someone may be able to directly suggest a matching product.

You will likeky be best served by using a pc running a firewall like pfsense. Since it is unix you can load most the tools you want.

The only router firmware I know that has caps is gargoyle but it is not as popular as other firmware so it is not supported on as many routers. Still I am not real sure it can do everything you want. A router is not all that powerful and it does not have a hard drive to store long term data.
