I have a Toshiba satellite s70-bbt2g23 and I'm trying to change the HDD and put in an SSD. I have cloned my old satellite SSD, but when I put the new SSD into my new machine, I get a "no device found" message. When I do F2 it show the SSD is there, but apparently it is not recognizing it. I first put the new SSD into my old machine and it booted up just fine. But it won't do that on this new machine. The SSD is a Samsung 850 EVO.

Any ideas on what I can do.

Well you won't be able to use a cloned OS from a computer with a different hardware configuration. In order to be able to use the SSD with you new computer, you should clone your new computer's OS from the HDD that it works with. Unfortunately this way you won't be able to clone just the programs from the old one and you'll have to install them from scratch on the SSD.
Hey there, Kellyphoenix10.

Even though it's a new build, there might be a BIOS/UEFI update available for your mobo, so check that out and try updating it to see if that resolves the issue. Other than that, try the SSD with a different SATA cable and SATA port as well. Try switching from IDE to AHCI or vice versa. I'd also suggest that you contact the motherboard manufacturer's customer support to ask if there might be a compatibility issue of some sort with those components. You could download the manufacturer's SSD diagnostics tool and test the drive with it, when connected to the old computer, just to make sure that there are no errors.

edit: Didn't see that there was a posted answer already. What @Phillip is probably implying by asking that question is that if you've cloned the OS from the old computer and tried to use the SSD with a different system, it probably won't work. Which is very possible and @Phillip is probably right if this is the case.

Please let me know how everything goes.

Thanks for your answer. Other people have told me that I can only clone as a backup to the computer that the clone was made from. So when I tried to put it into my new computer, the satellite s70-bbt2g23, it would not work. I'm not a computer guy, so I don't know how to do the technical stuff. I now have it running on Windows 10 that it came with, but will need to load all my programs on it. How do I adjust the BIOS without messing something up? Would it be best for me to take it to a technician to work this out?

From what I understand you've got the SSD running with Windows 10 on your new laptop. Is that correct? If so then you don't need to do anything with the BIOS' settings, just check if the TRIM function is enabled. You don't need to enter the BIOS options for that, here's how to do it - open CMD (Command Prompt) as administrator and type the following: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify and press "enter". If you get a 0 then that means that TRIM is enabled. This feature optimizes the work of your SSD and lets it function at its optimal efficiency throughout its life. As for the programs, you'll just have to install them on your new drive.

Let me know if you have any questions.

HI Boogieman_WD,

I'm sorry, but that is not correct. I tried putting an SSD that I had cloned from my old computer into my new computer, but my new computer won't recognize the SSD. After putting in the SSD into my new computer, when I try to start my new computer, I get a "no device found" message. The only thing I have been able to do is to put the original HDD back into my new computer, and it runs Windows 10 just fine. However, I would like to use the cloned SSD so that I can take advantage of the SSD itself, plus still use Windows 7 and not have to reload all my programs. Is that possible?
