in my ups there are two jacks which look like as if the broadband ether net cable are to be plugged in there.. but its written in one as phone/fsx and another one has wall outlet written near it.. can these be used for ethernet connection?

Solution
Ethernet RJ-45 connectors are much larger than a phone connector. They may look the same, but a phone uses RJ-11 or RJ-12 connectors. They are not compatible, and not the same size.

Since ethernet cables are point to point, and very low power, they almost never have a surge problem.
