First of all i am aware of the dangers of moving around CPU's in laptops and i am only doing this because my Samsung r530 no longer works due to a faulty charging input which i can not be bothered to solder and replace.
Basically, would it work if i moved the CPU in the Samsung r530 (Intel Pentium Dual Core T4400 @ 2.20GHz) into an older laptop, a Compaq Presario v2000 which currently has a Celeron M 350 @ 1.30 GHz? I know the CPU socket for the Compaq is a 479mPGA but i am unsure of the socket for the samsung even though i have tried googling it. I am unable to run speccy or cpu-z since i can't boot the laptop anymore. Thank you very much for your help.

Solution
They are not compatible, the t 4400 is on a newer version of socket 479, while the celeron m 300 series is on a previous version of socket 479. Same socket does not mean compatibility.

According to the intel website, the sockets are the same. However, on most laptops, the CPU is soldered into the motherboard. If you aren't willing to solder the laptop charging input, you probably won't want to solder the CPU into place, assuming you have the expertise to do such a thing without massively damaging your laptop.

Thanks a bunch for your reply Archgaull. I know for a fact the CPU in the Presario is not soldered, and lets just say the CPU in the Samsung is not soldered on either, if were to simply place the CPU into the Presario from the Samsung would the computer run normally? Would there be any compatibility Issues? Would it fry the motherboard? I dont't want to put it in and halfway through the boot up i blowup the laptop :pThanks for your help!

There might be some compatability issues, depending on what version the BIOS is running. However, one big issue I'm noticing, and one that's likely to cause some trouble, is that the R530 CPU is a 35 watt CPU, while the Compaq Presario is only 21 Watts. On laptops, this can make a huge difference in terms of heat, and it may even be too much power for the motherboard to handle. I wouldn't suggest attempting it, unless you don't mind losing both laptops and they are ones you use for experimenting.
