Cannot install AMD display driver

Hi,

I have tried to install the most recent AMD driver for my system, 15.7.1.

It froze while on 'installing display driver'. So I tried installing in safe mode and it told me that it 'failed to load detection driver' as soon at it started installing.

I then tried completely uninstalling my AMD software, including the drivers, but still gave me the same error in safe mode. After I tried using Guru3D's 'Display Driver Uninstaller' to deleted all old drivers, and also deleted all AMD files on the disk including the ones extracted during installation.

Still, it did not work.

I continued to search the internet but could not find any solution. How can I solve this?

Thank you in advance for any help,
:)

My PC specs:
Gigabyte HD 7870 2GB OC version
ASUS Maximus V gene
Intel Core i7 3770k
Kingston 4gb DRR3 1600MHz (x4)
Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

I would then go to Device Manager and completely delete the Video Card and then reboot and let Windows install the card again and the drivers. It will install the current drivers that Microsoft has. After that you can try your DDU again.

Try running the DDU Display Driver Uninstaller in Safe Mode as is recommended and then install the 15.7.1 driver.

If this fails you could try doing a System Restore from a few days ago.

I already tried both of those things and it didn't work. I unfortunately don't have a restore point from before the installer first crashed, because it disappeared for some reason. I wanted to refresh the PC, but don't have a CD because i updated to win 8.1.

If by deleting it, you meant right click and uninstall, then i did that. Then i restarted my PC and it installed some Microsoft driver. I then ran DDU in safe mode and tried installing the driver again but it gave me the same error.

After running DDU in Safe Mode did you install the driver in Safe Mode or normal mode?
Also...delete the driver again manually and reboot but disconnect your PC from the Internet before you reboot.
Then when it tries to find a driver, you can point it to the location where you stored the new driver. Do this in normal mode.

I installed it in safe mode. So I tried that, but it installed 'Microsoft basic display adapter' regardless of whether the internet was on or off. It did this automatically without showing any installer or anything, I only know because it was listed under display adapter in device manager. How do I point it to a driver manually?

Update:
I tried pointing it to the AMD driver (when the microsoft driver was already installed) by right clicking on it in Device manager and choosing 'Update driver software...'. It seemed to install some AMD driver (version 15.200.1062.1004) which I'm not sure if it is the version in the 15.7.1 Catalyst? However it did not install any software (CCC or whatever it's called now). I'll try playing some games and get back to you.

That's progress at least. Create a Restore Point as soon as possible. Let me know.
The current Driver Packaging Version is 15.20.1062.1004-150803a1-187669C.
The current driver is 15.200.1062.1004 - you have the latest one.
Catalyst version is 15.7.1
Unless you are running multiple monitors you can do without the CCC.
