I have an old board that needs new 3 pin cpu cooler fans.
The socket is 771LGA and the fans are $30.00+ that I have found here in the USA.
However, I can get 775LGA fans for $10.00+...

Would the 775 fan mount to my heat-sink I have for my 771 socket? Would any other fans mount to my heat-sink?

Other info...
The motherboard is a supermicro X7DBR-i+ ...
I have dual Xeon 2.8Ghx 54XX something cpus with aluminum heat-sinks and it is all in a 4U Rack with plenty of room.

Hello

I don't think it will work. If you look at the hole placements of the LGA771 and LGA775. They moved the holes to the corners with the 775 where as the 771 has a more square placement. So I think you have to go for an LGA771 cooler.

Hope this helps :)

The spacing to the center of the mounting holes on a 771 motherboard are 38.1 mm x 81.28 mm.
LGA 771 heatsinks are designed to mount to the chassis directly, rather than the motherboard.

The spacing to the center of the mounting holes on a 775 motherboard are 80.0 mm x 80.0mm.
LGA 775 heatsinks are designed to mount to the motherboard.

So. no.

I have an LGA771, and I can tell you it is NOT in a square placement
