Hey guys! Just got a new gtx 980 graphics card after my old 7950 died on me. After installing it the computer won't boot and keep getting stuck on the motherboard splash screen.

I have tried everything from resetting the CMOS.

However, if I try and take the graphics card out and change the BIOS the computer goes into a turn on, turn off cycle.

Me and my dad have been trying for hours to try and get this thing working but to no avail.

If anyone can offer any help that would be great.

what power supply wattage are you running and did you make sure you installed it properly make sure that it's fully in the PCI slot and not half in, and that your PSU is connected to it

Its at 650w, and yeah we have taken it out and put it back in again, so I am pretty sure we have put it in properly. When we take the GPU out it boots straight to the UEFI screen and then goes into a boot cycle.

And rgd1101 here are my specs:

-GTX 980 (AMD radeon sapphire hd 7950 old one)
-i7 3570k 3.4ghz processor
-Gigabyte ga-z77-d3h mobo
-16gb 1866mhz ddr3 corsair vengeance RAM
-650w PSU
-Cooler master hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler
-128gb ssd (cant remember the make atm)
-2tb seagate barracuda hdd
-2tb hitachi hdd

Cheers guys :)

Well glad to hear that bit, another thing to make sure is that your PC case PCI shroud is not in the way of you putting your GPU fully in. If the problem persists then try the other PCI port

after updating and it doesn't work go to BIOS factory settings if that doesn't solve it then you'll have to check if it's the graphics card by using a friends pc if it works then i'm sorry but it's probably your motherboard PCI ports being faulty but it really sounds like an outdated BIOS
