So I've had the i5 and Hyper 412S for a while now and since I haven't had time to OC myself I have had to settle with MSI OC Genie. The only problem is, at 4 GHz and 1.2V I'm getting 81 degrees celcius on my CPU during Prime with small FFTs. I plan to keep the CPU for some years and bearing in mind this is stock voltage I feel as though I might be significantly shortening its lifespan. Ambient is around 25 degrees so maybe the problem is with the cooler application? Case has good airflow with 3 120mm fans (2 of which are intake) and 1 140mm exhaust fan. Cables are pretty tidy.

Thanks a lot, bumped the voltage down to 1.15 and I'm hitting mid 70s and stable at 4.0GHz, I think I'll add another fan to my cooler before going any further just for peace of mind, but thanks again for the advice.

So it turns out the entire time I was actually running Prime 28.7, which I'm told uses a single instruction set that Haswell chips have problems with. Not an instruction set that it would ever use heavily in the real world. So I tried 26.6 which loads all instruction sets equally and I'm getting low-mid 60s! Still high 30s idle though, but that's probably because the Hyper 412S is super conservative on the fan speed at low load.

Oh I never did 24Hr or anything like that. I think I only lasted half an hour before I told myself it was best to turn it off for the sake of longevity. Do you know of any other programs (stress test or otherwise) that I should avoid for this reason?

Prime 26.6 is great, as is OCCT. The Stress test in ASUS RealBench is very 'real', and reproduces actual use well.

I use OCCT to check my overclocks, if it passes 10 minutes of that, I continue overclocking. When I get to the limit, I use Prime 26.6 and run for overnight, and dial things back a little if it fails.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll try OCCT soon.
