Just hoping for some clarity around what the major advantages are of Sky Lake vs. Haswell-E. I'm running a i7 5930k, my build is below actually. My brother is looking to build in the very near future and is considering the Sky Lake line, specifically this 6700k.

Can someone just shoot me straight on the key differences?

The skylake i7 runs ~5-7% faster than the 4790k. It cannot compete with the 5820k or 5930k in anything other than single thread performance. The 6700k is still overpriced IMO. You could build a 5820k system for about the same price as a 6700k system.

For gaming the skylake processors are better, for video editing the X99 series are better, though not by that much difference, however keep in mind the X99 series do have more expensive motherboards in general.
