So thanks to the community I have gathered enough information to attempt my first OC. This is an old system but it still runs anything I throw at it. I play few games and they are not huge strains like the COD series. My system is:
AMD phenom ii x4 965 BE (stock cooling)
ASUS M4A785TD-EVO
12 GB (2x4GB hyperx fury and 2x2GB kingston- both 1600 mhz ddr3)
Thus far I have reached a stable processor speed of 4.0 Ghz @ 1.45 max volts, CPU/NB of 2800 Mhz @ 1.25 volts, and my RAM is running 800 Mhz on each channel. Stress test was done via OCCT for an hour with a max temp of 53 C.
I havent changed any other settings. I dont feel that changing anything will increase performance noticeably but then again, I am not sure. How can I tell if changes are helping or hurting my gains? For example, I read that keeping the CPU/NB around 2600 would yield the best results but I dont know how to test that on my system. Same goes for the processor- I only went up to 4 Ghz because I could. If there is no noticeable change between 3.8 and 4 Ghz then I would rather drop it back down.
