Why do so many people hate the corsair cx series and builder series of power supplies? They're very cheap and do their job. They usually semi-modular which is awesome but whats so bad about them? I dont understand why so many people think they're awful? Look at the reviews on pcpartpicker, they have hundreds upon hundredddss of positive reviews

The only people who would buy a PSU from a company like Corsair is to custom build a pc. Ok easy. However Gaming PC's are put under more stressful loads such as overclocking and you would hate to have a PSU blow up and take something with it like a GPU. take a look at the PSU Teir list http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
The CX series is a Tier 4 choice and its a tier for because "No Japanese capacitors found. Only Taiwanese capacitors and may even include Chinese capacitors. Very basic safety circuits or even thin gauge wiring used. Not for gaming rigs or overclocking systems of any kind. Avoid unless your budget dictates your choice."
The complaint is that they're made by Channel Well. Now CWT can make a decent enough PSU for a casual or home office build. However, most enthusiasts don't like the idea of a high performance machine being powered by a mediocre PSU.

Units made by SeaSonic, FSP, and Super Flower are much higher quality. If you're spending good money on premium CPUs, mboards, and GPUs, then spending an extra $10 - $20 to get a top-quality PSU shouldn't be an issue.

and EVGA makes a very simular priced (often even cheaper) PSU series that are intel 4th gen certified with the same wattage as the CX that is 3rd tier. Not the greatest but keep in mind the CX is only for budget systems.

Okay thank you but can you maybe give me an idea of what psu i could use instead of it? one that really isn't at all much more expensive than maybe 60ish dollars or 65 at most. Heres the link to my build so far http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7fFcD3

a few thoughts:

1 - if someone blows up a power supply and tells 3 people, and they tell 3 people, and they tell 19 people... how many power supplies blew up? how many reports of power supplies blowing up are there? do you see a discrepancy? no? hmm.

2 - if there are 10 times as many corsair cx power supplies as any other power supply, would you expect 10 times as many reports of failure?

3 - if you buy a small power supply and push the living crap out of it and try to get 783 watts from a 430 watt unit and it blows up, whose fault is that?

4 - you get what you pay for. everywhere. all the time. whether we're talking power supplies, diamonds, or hookers-n-blow.

5 - the CX stuff makes great sense at the 430W and 500W level, especially when on sale and/or with a rebate. at the 600W and up power level, their price is too close to other better units.

6 - most "enthusiasts" are more into bragging about stuff than using it, showing off parts that look cool and spending money where it does nothing but stroke their ego. and that's fine. but the CX doesn't cater to them. so they bash it. it's normal.

In my nephews system I did use a CX 430 because it was stupid cheap it lasted about a year and a half and the system wouldn't turn on Corsair did replace the PSU with a refurbished unit but I switched it for an EVGA 430W because it was a good deal on black friday

i have two CX430M, one CX500M, and one EVGA 430. i actually hate that EVGA unit, and regret buying it. oh, it works fine, but the cables are not as friendly to use as i expected, and i can't rotate the IEC power cord jack to work better with my ITX case. i would not cry if it blew up. and i'd replace it with (another) CX430M.
