Hi so I have an asus m5a78l-m/usb3 motherboard and a fx-6300 cpu. I can't get it to run stable at 4.5ghz (runs fine in Valley Benchmark but crashes after about 30 minutes of GTA V) so I am forced to run at 4.4ghz whch is stable. I have a CoolerMaster Hyper 412s cooler and my temperatures are amazing, also I have a 1050watt power supply. However my gpu, (R9 390) bottlenecks my cpu because I see atleast a 20-30fps drop from running at 4.4ghz compared to 4.5ghz? I have the money to upgrade my motherboard to get a higher overclock stable but I can't lose anything from my OS as it has over 300gb of college work!

Thanks in advance.

Solution
No VRM cooling on that motherboard, 4.4 Ghz clock speed on it is not suitable and not safe.

Run it at standard clock which is 3.5 Ghz. 990FX mobo's are good for overclocking.

Ah yeah I had a feeling that was the case. At stock speeds I am yet to try. Are you suggesting it could perform better? I think stock speed is something around 3.6ghz.
