I'm wanting to upgrade my gpus. I currently run gtx 670s in two way SLI. I'd like to go to a single card but I'm not sure if anything is a real upgrade yet. Is a single 980 better? A single 980ti? I tend to set everything to low regardless so vram shouldn't matter much?

This would be on both an amd 8530 and an i5 4670 with the possibility of a move to skylake or haswell-e in the next few months.

Solution
Your setup is about equal to a GTX 690, so you're already faster than a GTX 980. Only a GTX 980 Ti would be faster for a single card, and even that won't be by much.

Thanks, I kind of figured. On the FX-8350 I think SLI was adding too much overhead and dropping framerates (IE I only got a 40% boost from SLI) but on the Haswell machine I got 75%). Didn't seem like a CPU bottle neck as CPU never exceeded 60% load. PCI-Express 2.0 For the Loss.
