Hey guys, I'm new to forums so excuse any ignorance I have but I was curious of why games feel sluggish on my PC, and ultimately why the PC feels slower than it roghtfully should. Now I have done a ton of research into my machine but it's hard to get clear responses because I'm working with a custom computer. First off it's a Mac Pro, 4 1, with a Xeon x5679 CPU, which I have been told, is a server CPU, and therefore not ideal for gaming, but I look and often it isn't being used more than 30% for most games. Second, I have a GTX 670 superclocked 4gb, windows graphics card, which is 1) no longer top of the line and designed for directX10 and 2) draws a lot of power from a slightly glitchy motherboard, without being tested in a professional enviornment. (When I say slightly glitchy, I mean it takes 2 trys to
Start it up every day. And it once in a blue moon, just shuts off. I don't know if a minutely wonky power supply can have any effect on results.) Third slow point is, I use a hybrid drive and a standard hard drive to play games, which I know are slower than SSDs, but I'm not ready to switch over without a great reason
Additionally, I play on windows 10, which is when the sluggishness began. After I upgraded, assassins creed's FPS dropped 50%, as well as Mortal Combat X, Wolfenstien and the Witcher 3. But I feel like it's a hardware and software issue.

From what's up here, is there improvements I can make, and what seems to be the slowest aspect of this build?

Thanks for any input, I just want to become more informed.

And if you wanna know what I game on:
Computer Specs:
Mac Pro 4,1 (Bootcamp)
Intel Xeon X5679 3.2Ghz 6-core 12 Mb L3 Server Processor
16GB 1066Mhz Ram
GTX 670 Superclocked 4GB Graphics Card
2TB 7200RPM Hybrid Drive
2TB 7200RPM HD
Windows 10 64-bit

Ever since the 580 Nvidia has built for DX11. That said your CPU is fine, memory while not the fastest out there should not be too much of an issue. The power supplies are 980W and tend to be extremely relaible. For gaming though, the 670 is going to be the weakest link here in games like those. My 770 struggles to maintain a decent FPS on the Witcher 3 on a 2K+ PC, and the rest of my specs are higher at higher settings.

A few other factors I would need to know, what are your temps, FPS in these games, have you dusted everything (even power supply) recently, and is the issue loading times or just low FPS?

As for SSD's, is there a good reason not to upgrade your boot drive at least? HDD's are great for games, but your whole system is...

First off, Thank you for responding! I have not dusted recently and will today, thanks for that tip! Additionally, for the bets way to Improve my graphics card, if I were looking to upgrade substantially, would a GTX 970 be Ideal, or SLI 2 together and get an external power source? And Again, thank you for responding!

I would advise against SLi for a couple of reasons, namely the setup on the external auxiliary power supply to start. But moreover is the lack of support for even current AAA titles and the issues that can ensue from using it in the ones that do. The 970 would be an excellent choice, normally I would recommend the R9 390X due to its all around better performance, however Mac support form AMD cards is limited to say the least.
