Hello
I was meant to buy the MSI GE62 I5700hq GTX 970m 16GB RAM and 128SSD+1TB however it was out of stock. So I’ve managed to get the same laptop without the additional SSD. And now I need to buy the SSD and install it. The only problem is that I have no clue what SSD I should grab so its going to fit.

Appreciate your help :)

Hey there, Demoz775.

From what I was able to find out about this laptop model, it has 2 M.2 SATA SSD slots so that you can use them in a RAID configuration. So you should be OK with any M.2 SATA SSD, but just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend that you get in touch with the laptop manufacturer's customer support. Ask them about the maximum capacity SSD that the laptop supports and to confirm what type of SSD it uses.

Hope that helps

Most ssd's are 10mm at the most with some being as small as 7mm (thickness). They are all 2.5" drives and will fit in the slot provided all the same. The slot that is usually provided is 10mm thick and some ssd's even come with spacers to fill the gap so the drive is snug with the laptop. Go with the SSD that is best for you in speed, capacity, and reliability.

Edit: Sorry, I forgot all the new laptops are starting to use M.2 and I didnt look up this one.

That laptop comes with a M.2 ssd which I assume you have.
There is a space for an additional 2.5" sata drive.
You could install a conventional hard drive, but they are slow.
A hybrid hard drive might be a bit better.
But, laptop hard drives are optimized for power savings, not performance.
If you have the budget, look for a Samsung 850 EVO SSD in the capacity your wallet and needs determine.
The Samsung drives are 7mm thick and will certainly fit. The laptop will likely come with spacers if the slot is 9mm. Or, you can simply use a paper shim to keep it snug.
