CPU Cooler Alternative

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can recommend a suitable alternative cooler for my PC

I purchased the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 cooler while building my first PC. I also have a Bitfenix Comrade case. Unfortunately the cooler was only able to be installed in two directions, up or down, and my case does not have a top exhaust port. I am therefore hoping to replace it with one that can be positioned to push air out the back port.

I would be grateful for recommendations for a cooler that can be positioned this way and that costs less than £25. Please note that the Hyper 212 Evo (which seems to be the most frequently recommended cooler in this price range) will not fit in this case, so any cooler would need to be smaller than that.

Thanks in advance for your help!

No, that is not correct. Not unless Cooler Master changed their mounting system very recently. Mine is facing the rear of the case on an AM3 socket. What you don't see in the usual pictures of the cooler is that the AMD clamping arm can pass between the cooler pipes and lay in provided groves. This allows facing the cooler in any of 4 directions.

Trust me. I have put this cooler on more AM3/3+/FM2/2+ retention brackets than I have fingers to count on ;-)

^ I've had this conversation before _ I only used the tx3 once & never realised you could do this.
I'm going to have to concede being wrong - this is the standard tx3 not the tx3 evo??

HOWEVER

all 3 of those above are better performers than the tx3 - the hyper 103 with the aidos take the crown now in the 92mm market.
The deepcool s40 (if still in stock for £15) though would be my choice , preapplied paste, incredibly easy to mount, performs about the same as the other 2 but is quieter & its probably the shortest 120mm cooler around at 142mm.I dropped one in an old 3570 build last week & under 100% stress it never topped 52c in a 2 hour run
The only downside is it has a non standard fan which would be a chore to replace if it ever failed.
Absolute bargain at £15 though

True, the TX3's performance can be bested by other coolers in that size and price range. I was only mentioning that it was comparable in size and performance to the OP's Arctic Freezer 7 Pro (which I also have had), and will snap right on the AMD retention brackets in any direction.

Yes, the std. TX3, not the TX3 EVO.

I used to have the little TX3 on my Phenom II X4 965BE @ 4GHz for awhile and it managed to keep it within safe limits. Right now I have one on an elderly Q9550 @ 3.4GHz. Doing OK there too.

the freezer 7 pro was my first ever aftermarket cooler - I was impressed at the time - probably more by the looks than anything else but the vertical mounting on amd was a real downer.

Been through a lot of coolers now & raijintek have impressed me more than anyone else - the aidos was hard to beat for a long time but the hyper 103 is pretty much the king of 92mm coolers now & cheap too - I dont know why they felt the need to hardwire a blue led into the fan though which cant be turned off - some people like bright blue led's ,personally I dont.
The s40 though, bought it on a whim for £15 - seriously impressive at that price - wouldn't pay above £20 for it but at £15 an absolute no-brainer - I wish Id bought a few more to stockpile while they had loads at that price.

Thanks for the suggestions :) Would these be able to be installed in the direction I need? The s40 does look interesting at that price.
