Hi, I am in the looks for a new 650W power supply for my new rig ;)
Currently looking at the EVGA Supernova. They have two models, G2 (Gold) and P2 (Platinum), the gold offers 7 years warranty and the platinum offers 10!
The price difference between the two stands for about 18 bucks.
I was wondering if it platinum model is worth the extra money, what do you think? and could you please elaborate. I already know they're both great. :)
Thanks!

Solution
The platinum is roughly 2% more efficient at various loads versus the gold. Have no idea how much cash this will save you over 7-10 years(thinking about this type of stuff makes my head hurt!).

Each PSU is going to deliver excellent quality power to your rig for excellent stability. Do you think 650w will meet your power needs for the next decade? If so, get the Platinum.(now I will go and take some excedrin)

Thanks guys that's what I thought.
drkatz, yes I am pretty sure it will hold, even at peak loads. I will use a single card and an i7 Extreme, they should not go over 450watts at peak :)

if the price diff is significant then gold is more practical. now, the question is, is 18 a big deal :)
maybe, if there are other factors that plat is better (aside from efficiency) then maybe it will be worth it. 18 is not that much really.

let's say, looks, which one looks better to you? fan noise?
if it was me, unless i really like the looks or maybe some other advantage of plat, then i'd go for gold. sure it is just 20 bucks, but whoever said that gold is not enough, right? i mean, keep the extra money for future upgrades, or get some decent fans, or maybe add that when you buy a new mouse or keyboard

That's also a nice way to look at it, but isn't there more to platinum power supplies? like better voltage regulation, less heat production? the platinum also comes with 3 years extra for warranty.

the way i look at it, sure, it is easy to buy the plat now since you have the cash. but if money is a bit of an issue, and you are choosing between bronze and gold, wouldn't you be happy with gold?

or, here's something to add to the confusion, how about a 750w gold? :)
reviews have shown that efficiency is at it's peak @50% load, and usually, rigs are at 300-400w right?

Newegg recently had the Platinum on sale for $70 after rebate +/- tax. Whichever one went on sale first, that is the one I would buy. (By the way, if you bought the Gold and they offered you an additional 3 years of warranty on it for $18 additional, would you buy the warranty extension?)
