Windows won't boot after restoring image

When we last left our hero, his PC would not power on. After testing the PSU, he brought it to the local repair shop. There, the repair guy reseated the RAM and it powered on but wouldn’t boot windows, most likely because of my interrupting Windows restore when the PC was locking up.

I said, I know how to restore a back up image with Macrium rescue disk (I religiously make back ups!) and took it home. No dice. It powered but wouldn’t boot the restored image. I brought it back to the shop and at great expense, he reinstalled Windows & and told me not to try to restore the image; to be happy with a working OS.

I of course tried to restore the image so I wouldn’t have the miserable task of reinstalling all my programs, getting it to network with the printers, etc. What do you know- Windows won't boot, giving me error messages that a windows 32 dll is missing.

Macrium tech support via email has been helpful and made numerous suggestions-I’ve tried to reinstall the most recent image, older images, image made with another program of the native reinstalled Win 7, to boot with the second drive removed, to restore with overwrite enabled, to use the rescue disk Boot Fix utilities all no go.

A friend who knows computers spent 2 ½ hours the other night trying various fixes including some repair attempts with a Windows flash drive. He suggests removing the partition on my primary drive with cmd that I can get to via the rescue CD and trying to restore the image.

The BIOS changed a little after bringing the PC home from the shop- I get an ASUS, not AVA screen when prompted to boot the BIOS and on powering up, I get a single beep from the motherboard.

I ordered a windows 7 reinstallation disk off of Ebay (I have the original OS serial number), so when I’m ready to throw in the towel I can always try reinstalling Win 7 (again).

Any bright ideas? I can supply more specifics about the system/error messages as needed.

Thanks in advance

If you have a valid retail license key, you could have downloaded the Win 7 ISO directly from MS, for free.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

If you don't have a valid retail license, whatever you purchased from ebay may not work.

The procedure seemed unnecessarily complicated- I started to DL an Win& ISO but apparently there's a utility to restore it to the HD, the link to which was a dead end.

You download the ISO file, then use a Windows tool to burn that to a DVD. This thing: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool
Pretty easy.

Just to make sure I get this- I download the Win 7 ISO to a computer. I install the tool to that computer. Running the tool allows me to put it onto a USB drive.
From there, how do I install it onto my dead computer?

Change the boot order to boot from the USB
Boot from the USB
After that, just like any other install.
