Hello, I am Kien from Vietnam.

So far I got an daily basis i7 860 & MSI P55-GD65. But I have been using both of them for over 4 years. Main-board died a month ago, I got it fixed. Now turn to a bad ram slot (BIOS & CPUZ sees 8GB, but only 4GB usable). I've tried everything, and final statement is bad/broken ram slot.

Is it worthy to upgrade to FX-8350 and Sabertooth 990FX? Because now its already 2015 so I am not sure if it is obsolete to do so. Could you give me some recommendations on this.

Thanks much

8350 isnt really an upgrade. for gaming it wont really do much better than what you have. Considering you have to spend a lot more on a decent motherboard for an 8 core cpu (for it to run reliably), you are better off with an i5 and cheaper motherboard. Sell your i7 on ebay or something to gaina bit of money back.

So far it is not possible to find a replacement for my current mainboard. I could only sell it. Socket 1156 seems to be boycotted in my country.
Shifting to AMD because I won't do much gaming, but working mostly. With limited budget, it is not possible atm to gang with those Intel CPUs.
I think I found the answer now. Thanks much both of you.

What do you mean it's not possible? I have an OEM i7-860 cpu and OEM board that took my AMD 7850 GPU and PSU upgrades without a hitch. The i7-860 is perfectly capable of gaming, if the case its in has room, you can slap in a GPU and a new PSU and have a decent gaming rig. The i7-860 performs very similar to the 8300 chips.... Would be a waste of money to go from the 860 to 8300.
Here is what I did...

In my country it is very hard to find a 1156 mainboard. Now most of them are warranty outdated, or ridiculously pumped in price (coz they know 1156s are at high demand). I also think of buying a decend replacement from US and ship back here. But I am afraid my CPU is gonna die soon also. The i7 860 has lived almost 5 years since my purchase. So....I dont have many choices :(

And again, limited budget and the desire of getting a new mobo & CPU.

If i were you i'd just be ordering a new motherboard from ebay, should be plenty 1156 around. Having said that, all these motherboards are quite a few years old, and are more likely to cause problems in the near future.

What do you need a new mobo for? The only reason you'd need a new one is if your current mobo doesn't have a PCI-E slot. My OEM i7-860 mobo did... took an aftermarket GPU without issue.

My current mobo's ram slots are having issues. Bios + CPU Z shows full memory (4gbx2), but windows only see 4gb.
I realized my #1 ram slot has problem because it can not boot on its own. I need more memory to work

Oh ok. Well then in that case an upgrade would certainly be needed. But, like others have mentioned... going from your CPU to an 8300 chip will hardly be an upgrade. I doubt you would even notice a difference.
