can I crossfire a sapphire r9 270x with a msi r9 390x?

I remember hearding or reading that as long as the card is an r9 it can crossfire with any r9 but not with say an r7 etc. I plan to upgrade early next year and being able to keep my graphics card would mean that much more power.

270x cannot be crossfired with a 390x. Although 2 of the same model can be crossfired (270x+270x / 390x+390x), even different brands (Sapphire 270x+MSI 270x) although it can cause some problems when crossfiring different branded cards

-completely wrong. You can xfire cards from the same family. example 270 and 270x, 280 and 7950. 270x/270 codename is curaçao xt/curacao and r9 390/390x is from grenada pro/grenada family. They have from different families so cannot.

The R9 270X can Crossfire with the 7850, 7870, R7 265, R9 270, R7 370, and of course another R9 270X. Brand does not matter.

The R9 390X can Crossfire with the R9 290, R9 290X, R9 390, and of course another R9 390X. Brand again does not matter.
