Hello everyone.

I just replaced my FX-8350 retail heat sink with Noctua D-14. The CPU runs on default clock speeds 4.0 with 4.2 Turbo. Motherboard is ASUS M5A97 R2.0

To connect Noctua's fans I used the supplied Y split cable and plugged it to the CPU FAN slot. The 140mm fan (in the middle) I connected to the side, of the Y cable, which controls the fan speed. I read that some people have done it the other way around and they have their 120mm fan (at the front of the cooler) plugged in to the fan speed controlling side of the Y cable, but I guess that's just a personal preference. Do let me know please if it matters from a technical point of view.

Now about the problem. In both, BIOS and HW Monitor, I get crazy fan speed readings - from lower than 500rmp to 675000rpm and they change randomly every second. This I get for the two case fans and the CPU gives me 600 / 700rpm range.

I couldn't find info on the issue and any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. I've been keeping an eye on it and noticed that the 675000 reads are happening only on the two case fans ( top and rear ). I've updated the info in my initial post.

When using a Y cable for two PWM fans, one leg of the splitter cable must have the RPM connection deactivated. You can only get feedback from one RMP cable on one fan only. Some Y cable don't do this.

Hi. So far it seems that the CPU fan constantly keeps around 600rpm. Top and rear case fans are giving the crazy readings. I guess since the CPU fan seems OK, there's nothing to worry about.

Thanks
